I tend to call myself a Nutrition Therapist and not a Dietitian simply because I do not agree with the idea of “dieting” and frankly do not want to be associated with the “dieting” industry.
Dieting (caloric restriction) is not an effective, long-term strategy way to lose weight.
This is something that the dieting industry does not want you to know.
Read on to discover why this dietitian does NOT want you to diet.
~ It slows down our metabolism
~ Decreases our energy levels
~ Increases our cravings/obsession for food
~ Perpetuates the idea that ” I will be good enough/happy when…”
~ Perpetuates the idea that thin is the same as healthy (not true)
~ It can lead to disordered eating and yo-yo dieting
~ It takes the power and trust away from us and our bodies
~ Teaches us to ignore our hunger signals
~ Can lead to hormone imbalances and bone loss
~ Decrease physical performance
~ Decreased libido and/or interest in sex
~ The dieting industry makes us feel like something is wrong with us if the diet does not “work” (it is the diet industry that is failing us!)
These are just a few of the many reasons why not to diet. Gain health and find your natural body weight without dieting.
* Disclaimer: I am not referring to medical nutrition therapy diets (such diets for renal disease) or true food allergies. I am referring to diets for weight loss (hannahsaffold.com).
