New Leadership for EDRS
Letters from Michelle and Haleh
Dear Colleagues and Eating Disorder Community;
Eating Disorders Recovery Services has been a passionate part of my life for the last 3 years. In this short amount of time a growing number of professionals and non professionals in the eating disorder field have joined forces with me to create wonderful accomplishments for our community, click here to see the complete list.
I have experienced a number of primary losses in the last 2 years, as well as currently taking turns caring for my mother in law who is under the care of Hospice. I have been writing a book entitled, "Self Love; the only diet that works". In this book I am telling people to slow down and nurture themselves. I have been driving a 85 mile an hour life in a 65 mile an hour zone. It is time for me to follow my own advise, and slow down, give myself time to grieve, and take time to nurture and care for my self.
With that being said: I am proud to announce the new Executive Director of EDRS: Haleh Kashani Ph.D. has accepted the position with forethought, grace, and years of expertise in the field of eating disorders. Haleh "accepted the baton" at our last EDRS meeting, and will take over from here. Please look out for Haleh's upcoming email where she will introduce herself to you in more depth. She is a great leader who will add her energy and focus to EDRS. I invite you to call her, and see how you can help!
Thanks again for your past and future support of EDRS.
Sincerely,
Michelle E. Minero MFT
Dear Colleagues and Members of the Eating Disorder Community,
As many or you know by now, Michelle Minero recently resigned her position as Executive Director of the Eating Disorders Recovery Services (EDRS).Over the years, Michelle has played a strong leadership role in the community. EDRS is one example of her leadership. For the past three years, through the Annual Collaborative Gatherings, as well as the Annual Eating Disorder Awareness Week (EDAW) Conference, Michelle has brought us together and has been instrumental in creating a sense of community among eating disorder providers. Michelle has promised me that, in her role as the founding member, she will remain involved with EDRS and will continue to support and guide us in fulfilling the EDRS's mission of collaboration and service.
I was moved and honored by Michelle’s suggestion that I take a leadership role as the EDRS Executive Director. After careful consideration, I have decided to accept the position. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you. I have been a licensed psychologist for close to 20 years and for about the last decade in my private practice and in my work at Kaiser, I have worked closely with individuals and families and the community as a whole in addressing many issues associated with eating disorders. I have been a member of the eating disorders task force in Petaluma and in Marin County since their inception and have been involved in organizing community activities such as public education and staff training in various settings such as schools, hospitals and clinics. In my role as the eating disorder specialist at Kaiser San Rafael, I have created and directed out-patient eating disorder programs for adults and adolescents, and have developed a training program for post-doctoral residents in the field of eating disorders.
As the incoming Executive Director, I would like to follow in Michelle’s foot steps toward strengthening our sense of community through our annual programs for professionals and the community at large, our fundraising effort to increase our treatment fund, and by providing training opportunities for professionals in various settings such as schools, medical and mental health clinics.
Toward this goal, I would like to invite eating disorder professionals to join us for our Monthly Planning, Networking and Education Meetings that will be held on the first Saturday of each month from 12:30 to 2:30. All eating disorder providers in the greater Bay Area are invited to join. We would like to use these meetings in part as an opportunity for the eating disorder specialists to share their expertise with each other and with the community through informal and formal presentations to the group. More detailed information about our Speaker Education Program will follow in our upcoming announcements. I hope that with your help, I am able to promote the mission and goals of EDRS. I welcome your in-put with regard to current activities and new directions.
Please feel free to email me directly at haleh@kashaniphd.com, through the EDRS website or call me: 415-898-9839.
I look forward to our future collaborations together.
Sincerely,
Haleh Kashani, Ph.D.
